VERY FINE. AN IMPRESSIVE MULTIPLE SHOWING THE FOREIGN ENTRY OF THE ONE-CENT FRANKLIN ON THE TWO-CENT WASHINGTON PLATE.
Only one position -- the fourth position under the plate no. on the upper left pane of Plate 5299 -- yields this interesting variety. It is believed to have been created when a 1c transfer roll was erroneously used to enter this position on the 2c plate. When it was discovered prior to printing, the design was burnished away and corrected with a 2c entry. Some elements of the 1c design remained. This same plate was also used during production of Scott Nos. 332, 349, 375 and 384.
Accompanied by bottom two stamps of the row. With 1968 P.F. certificate (Image)
VERY FINE AND CHOICE. A BEAUTIFUL MINT NEVER-HINGED GUIDE LINE PAIR OF THE 5-CENT PERF 12 DOUBLE-LINE WATERMARK VERTICAL COIL.
Interestingly, this is the only 5c Washington-Franklin perforated vertical coil stamp ever produced. Demand proved to be so low that no others were made.
With 1999 P.F. certificate (Image)
EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB GUIDE LINE PAIR OF THE 4-CENT DOUBLE-LINE WATERMARKED WASHINGTON ISSUE.
With 1980 and 2000 P.F. certificates. (Image)
