A FINE APPEARING EXAMPLE OF THE RARE ONE-CENT 1880 AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY SPECIAL PRINTING.

Our census of Scott 192 (available at http://siegelauctions.com/enc/census/192.pdf) records a total of 25 copies. Of these, thirteen are reported to be sound. Therefore, this is one of the rarest of all Special Printings, on a par with Scott 211D.

A FINE AND SOUND EXAMPLE OF THE RARE 2-CENT 1880 AMERICAN BANK NOTE SPECIAL PRINTING.

Our recently updated census records for Scott 193 contain 47 certified examples, of which almost half half faults (mostly thins). Of the sound examples, nearly all are centered to top or one side. The stamp offered here is one of those rare sound examples.

COMPANY SOFT-PAPER SPECIAL PRINTING IS ONE3c Blue Green, Special Printing (194). Without gum as issued, intense shade and sharp impression, centered to right as are several of the few recorded examples

FINE. THE 3-CENT 1880 AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY SOFT-PAPER SPECIAL PRINTING IS ONE OF THE RAREST OF ALL SPECIAL PRINTINGS -- OUR CENSUS RECORDS ONLY FOURTEEN EXAMPLES, MAKING THIS ONE OF THE RAREST OF ALL SPECIAL PRINTINGS.

Our census of Scott 194 (available at http://siegelauctions.com/enc/census/194.pdf) contains only fourteen examples. Its rarity matches or exceeds the most valuable Special Printings, such as Scott Nos. 180 (24 known), 181 (10 known), 203 (20 known), 204 (18 known), 205C (21 known) and 211D (25 known). In fact, it is the rarest of any Bank Note Special Printing among the Scott-listed "sets" (167-177 and 192-202). As further evidence of its elusiveness, six years passed here at Siegel between the sale of the Scott 194 from the Drucker collection in 2002 and the Hoffman copy in 2008.

Census No. 194-UNC-12. Ex West and Engel. With 1957 and 2008 P.F. certificates. Based on relative rarity, this stamp is significantly undervalued in Scott (Image)

VERY FINE EXAMPLE OF THE 6-CENT 1880 AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY SPECIAL PRINTING. FEWER THAN 30 ARE BELIEVED TO EXIST.

Our recently updated census records contain 26 certified examples of Scott 195, an oddly low number. Some of the stamps submitted as the Special Printing, but certified as the regular issue, Scott 186, could in fact be Special Printing stamps (the two are difficult to tell apart). We record another three stamps which we feel are possibly Scott 195, despite previous P.F. certification.

FRESH AND FINE EXAMPLE OF THE 1880 7-CENT AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY SPECIAL PRINTING.

Our recently updated census records for Scott 196 contain approximately 80 certified examples. It is the most common of the soft-paper Special Printings because the 7c was no longer in production in 1880 and, probably to some degree, because it can be easily identified since there is no regular issue on soft paper.

Without gum as issued, deep rich color and sharp proof-like impression, perfectly centered with wide even margins, certificate describes two utterly trivial paper flaws which are characteristic of this soft paper--one is called a "tiny thin" in a single perf tip, and the other a "tiny tear" in a perf hole--in our opinion, these types of paper flaws can be found on virtually all soft-paper Special Printings if you look hard enough

EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. A MAGNIFICENT EXAMPLE OF THE EXCEEDINGLY RARE 10-CENT 1880 AMERICAN BANK NOTE SPECIAL PRINTING.

Our recently updated census records for Scott 197 contain 30 certified examples certified. Of these, eight have faults, leaving only 22 sound or potentially sound examples (some have not been examined in many years).

VERY FINE. APPROXIMATELY 41 EXAMPLES OF THE 90-CENT 1880 AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY SPECIAL PRINTINGS ARE KNOWN TO EXIST. THIS IS A RARE SOUND AND WELL-CENTERED EXAMPLE.

Our recently updated census records for Scott 202 contain approximately 41 certified copies. The 90c 1880 Special Printing on soft paper is notorious for its condition. Thins or more serious faults affect about half of the known examples. With the demand for Special Printings so strong, we anticipate collectors will display exuberance in bidding for this choice sound stamp.
