to Bucaramanga court house, ^PAMPLO1859, 1p Carmine (7). Three singles used with 1859 2-1/2c Green and 5c Blue (1, 2), tied on arrival by bold strikes of "BUCARAMANGA/FRANCA" double-oval handstamp on large folded judicial wrapper from Pamplona to Bucaramanga court house, "PAMPLONA" oval handstamp struck several times, ms "3p7.5c" rate, the stamps are severely discolored and the wrapper is eroded from the writing ink and damp storage

IN THE ABSENCE OF ANY OTHER COVERS BEARING THE ONE-PESO 1859 FIRST ISSUE, THIS ARTIFACT ASSUMES A ROLE OF GREAT IMPORTANCE IN COLOMBIAN PHILATELY AND POSTAL HISTORY. ONE MIGHT SAY ITS CONDITION ADDS CHARACTER.

Discovered only a few years ago, this remarkable judicial wrapper is the only known example of the One-peso on cover (and one of two covers bearing the 2-1/2-centavos). It is in the same condition as found, but it deserves the attention of a skilled restorer, who can prevent further erosion and possibly bring the stamps' colors back to life. (Image)
