EXTREMELY FINE. A MAGNIFICENT COVER BEARING TWO VALUES OF THE 1859 ISSUE IN SUPERB CONDITION. FIRST ISSUE COMBINATION COVERS ARE OF THE GREATEST RARITY, ESPECIALLY USED DURING THE FIRST MONTH OF ISSUE.

The Bortfeldt handbook states (page 3): "In comparison to other countries, stamps on cover, on piece or with identifiable date used during the first month, September 1859, are extremely rare. Only a few items are recorded today, which are more expensive than similar items with dates of the following months." This cover is illustrated in the Bortfeldt handbook on page 6. (Image)
