FINE-VERY FINE. THIS REMARKABLE SHEET IS THE LARGEST KNOWN MULTIPLE OF THE 1862 5-CENT BLUE LITHOGRAPH AND, IN FACT, STANDS AS THE LARGEST SURVIVING MULTIPLE OF ANY CONFEDERATE LITHOGRAPHED GENERAL ISSUE.
Purchased by John R. Hill Jr. from Raymond and Roger Weill in 1987, who had purchased it from Philip Ward in 1963.
Ex Walcott (lot 321). Scott Retail as gutter pairs, blocks of four, pairs and one single (Image)
FINE-VERY FINE. THIS AND ONE OTHER STRIP OF SIX ARE THE LARGEST RECORDED USED MULTIPLES OF THE 10-CENT FRAMELINE STAMP.
Although unused Frameline multiples are known -- including a block of four (unique), strips of four, six and seven -- used multiples are extremely rare. There are two recorded strips of six (one on piece with an additional single was sold in Siegel Sale 823, lot 457). (Image)
