EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB USED PAIR OF THE 3-CENT HORIZONTAL COIL, SCOTT 445, IN THE FINEST CONDITION ATTAINABLE.
With 2002 A.P.S. and 2004 P.F. certificates. With 2008 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95, SMQ $2,800.00). The P.S.E. Population Report lists Scott 445 in single, pair and line pair format. This is the only used example in any of the three categories to achieve a P.S.E. XF-Superb 95 grade. One used line pair has been graded 90, the next highest grade, followed by two singles and two pairs graded 85. (Image)
EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB USED GUIDE LINE PAIR OF THE 5-CENT HORIZONTAL COIL, SCOTT 447. EASILY ONE OF THE FINEST IN EXISTENCE, AND THE ONLY LINE PAIR GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 BY P.S.E.
Coil multiples can be extremely difficult to obtain in such superb used condition. They are rarely found well-centered both side-to-side and also top-to-bottom. Guide line pairs add an additional degree of rarity, as they occur only once every 20 stamps. Add in the factor that few guide line pairs were used, and its true rarity in this condition can begin to be appreciated.
With 1999 P.F. and 2008 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95, SMQ $3,450.00). This is the only used line pair to achieve this grade, which is the highest awarded to date (used pairs have received two 95's and one 98). (Image)
EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB USED EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT VERTICAL COIL, SCOTT 449, IN WHAT MAY BE THE FINEST CONDITION ATTAINABLE.
Ex Floyd. With 1981 P.F. certificate (Image)
VERY FINE AND CHOICE. THIS IS THE FINEST OF THE FOUR RECORDED USED EXAMPLES OF THE ONE-CENT GREEN 1917 ISSUE PERFORATED 10 AT TOP OR BOTTOM. ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE TAHOE COLLECTION, AND OF ANY COLLECTION OF USED 20TH CENTURY UNITED STATES STAMPS.
Our records of this rarity contain twelve unused (including two in a block of four, four in a block of 25 and and a plate block of six containing 1-1/2 stamps with the variety) and four used examples. The four used examples can be identified as follows: 1) bottom stamp in top selvage vertical pair, PFC 37681, condition unconfirmed, 2) the stamp offered here, last offered in Siegel Sale 930, realized $42,500 hammer, 3) Ohio boxed cancel, PFC 157251, centered to top and right, and 4) lightly cancelled, perfs just in at right, offered in Siegel Sale 872, realized $19,000 hammer.
With 1978 and 2007 P.F. certificates (Image)
EXTREMELY FINE GEM. ONLY SIXTEEN USED EXAMPLES OF THE RED VIOLET ARE CURRENTLY KNOWN.
The Philatelic Foundation has certified only six singles, one pair (now split) and one block of four as genuine. The other block (uncertified) has a straight edge at right and slight thinning.
With photocopy of 2002 P.F. certificate for vertical pair, this being the bottom stamp. In our opinion this rarity is undercatalogued in Scott. (Image)
