VERY FINE APPEARANCE AND BEAUTIFULLY CANCELLED IN RED. ONE OF SEVEN RECORDED COVERS (AND FIVE WRAPPERS) WITH THE 2-CENT AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT STAMP.
Alan C. Campbell reported six 2c covers and four wrappers in his 2002 census of Agriculture covers (Chronicle No. 194), but the 2004 Bennett catalogue of the Markovits collection raised the numbers to seven and five. Based on the data in the Campbell census, this is the only 2c Agriculture cover postmarked in red.

ONE OF THREE RECORDED USAGES OF THE 10-CENT AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT STAMP, ALL OF WHICH ARE ON "PUBLIC DEPARTMENT" LABELS SIGNED BY FREDERICK WATTS, AND ONLY TWO OF WHICH ARE FULL LABELS.
This is No. 2 of only three 10c Agriculture usages listed in the Campbell census (Chronicle No. 194, May 2002). Campbell incorrectly reported the destination as Rutledge, Virginia, but Grainger County is, in fact, in Eastern Tennessee. The third 10c Agriculture usage listed by Campbell is a portion of the label (essentially a "piece" and offered as such in the Markovits sale). In all three cases the stamp paid the 10c "public document" rate for a single bound volume. (Image)
