VERY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE, WITH A RED FANCY CANCELLATION.

Only seven examples of this cancel are recorded in the Alexander book (including one in blue). Ex Judd and Cole. (Image)

Unpaid" in legible manuscript, Very Fine, the stamp is tied by the notation but not by the grid, which leads us to believe the sender attempted to use a cancelled stamp to pay postage, which was detected and rejected by the Jamaica Plain postmaster, with 1984 P.F. certificate (Image) E. 1,000-1,500

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE USE OF A 5-CENT 1847 STRIP OF THREE TO PAY THE TRIPLE 5-CENT RATE ON A COVER WHICH UNDOUBTEDLY ENCLOSED A VALENTINE.

This is one of only three recorded usages from Wallingford Conn. (and the only multiple franking). (Image)
