United States Stamps continued...

1857-60 Issue continued...
Lot Sym. Lot Description
1511 image1c Blue, Ty. IIIa (22). Position 69R4, exceptionally well-centered, wonderful deep rich color, neat circular datestamp, Very Fine and choice, this stamp exhibits a diagonal line which runs from in between the "On" of "One" to the bottom of Franklin's hair, Neinken questions this as a plate crack but we believe it is most likely a plate scratch, with 2002 P.F. certificate (Image) 550.00

SOLD for $800.00
Will close during Public Auction
1512 og image1c Blue, Ty. IV (23). Position 9R1L, original gum, recut once at bottom, worn impression typical of Plate 1 Late perforated stamps but exceptionally fresh and bright color, wide and well-balanced margins for this difficult issue, this top-row position has perfs well clear of top and bottom recut lines

VERY FINE AND CHOICE. A RARE SOUND ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 PERFORATED ONE-CENT TYPE IV.

The Plate 1 Late sheets on hand in 1857 were perforated on the new equipment, but the spacing between subjects and Toppan Carpenter's generally poor perforating skills resulted in the majority being off center. Examples of Scott 23 with original gum and this grade of centering are extremely rare. This recut position 9R1L was Type Ib on the early state of the plate.

With 2006 P.F. certificate (Image)
