A FINE AND EXTREMELY RARE COMBINATION. ONLY THREE COVERS WITH THE PHILADELPHIA 7LB3 CARRIER STAMP AND 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE ARE RECORDED.
Census information is reported by Larry Lyons in The Penny Post (July 2006). Ex Gibson and Boker. With 1993 Jakubek certificate (Image)
A VERY FINE AND ATTRACTIVE COVER WITH THE "LS" PHILADELPHIA CARRIER STAMP.
This May 12 postmark on a clearly-dated 1849 letter is an appropriate date of use of the "LS" stamp. The Philadelphia carrier service was reorganized in February 1849, and stamps were issued at that time. Lyons reports 12-15 covers with 7LB4. (Image)
VERY FINE. APPROXIMATELY TWELVE TO FIFTEEN EXAMPLES OF THE BLACK LITHOGRAPHED CARRIER STAMP ARE REPORTED, AND ONLY THREE ARE KNOWN IN COMBINATION WITH THE 1851 ISSUE. THIS TIED USAGE IS EXTRAORDINARY.
Ex Piller. With 1984 P.F. certificate (Image)
AN EXTREMELY FINE EXAMPLE OF THIS EXCEEDINGLY RARE CARRIER STAMP. NO MORE THAN A DOZEN EXAMPLES OF 7LB14 ARE KNOWN TO US.
The Type C31 stamps were ordinarily left uncancelled, this probably was removed from a cover. The pencil lines at bottom and right are characteristic layout lines.
Ex Caspary and Middendorf. With 1991 P.F. certificate stating that the stamp is genuine. Scott Retail as an off-cover stamp (Image)
