As scarce as the 2c 1873 Continental stamp (Scott 157) is in Mint N.H. condition, the 2c 1870 National (Scott 146) is rarely obtainable in this state. The stamp offered here is easily one of the finest -- if not the finest -- we have encountered. EXTREMELY FINE GEM. THE 1870 30-CENT NATIONAL UNGRILLED ISSUE IS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT OF ALL BANK NOTE ISSUES TO FIND IN SOUND, WELL-CENTERED, ORIGINAL-GUM CONDITION. THIS IS THE FINEST EXAMPLE WE HAVE EVER HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF OFFERING.

During the past few years, we have offered very few superb original-gum examples of the 30c 1870 National Bank Note printing. The margins and light hinging of the example offered here are better than any we have offered.

20 og image90c Carmine (155). Original gum, lightly hinged, well-centered with wide Jumbo margins all around, radiant color, proof-like impression

EXTREMELY FINE GEM ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1870 90-CENT UNGRILLED NATIONAL BANK NOTE ISSUE. THIS IS EASILY ONE OF THE FINEST ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLES IN EXISTENCE. A REMARKABLE STAMP IN EVERY RESPECT.

In general, the Grilled National Bank Note Issues in superb original-gum condition overshadow their ungrilled counterparts. This is also true for the 90c. However, in the case of the 90c, collectors are frequently misled by the availability of Scott 166, the 1873 Continental printing. The difference in shades is distinct, yet collectors have a tendency to under-rate the 1870 National printing. Most original-gum examples are poorly centered. This example is remarkable for its centering, freshness of color, size of margins and overall appeal.

With 1997 P.F. certificate (Image)
