In the Neinken book (p. 19), he theorizes that this die proof was made sometime after the 1857 contract was extended, and possibly was from a die made especially for the 1875 Reprint.

Two of the seven usages are paid by two singles. Of the 24 pairs on cover recorded in our census, this is the only known used from Illinois.
