EXTREMELY FINE. A REMARKABLY BEAUTIFUL AND INCREDIBLY RARE DIE ESSAY FOR THE 5-CENT TAYLOR ISSUE.

This essay also exists in Black. Both should be considered extremely rare -- a note in Brazer catalogue states "(Not seen by C.W.B.)". We have sold only other other example in Blue.

The new 5c stamp was created in 1875 to pay the basic 5c rate for international mail which was established by the General Postal Union. (Image)
