Free frank in purple ink "U. S. Grant" on Executive Mansion
stationery to Miss Edmunds in Washington D.C., addressed in his hand and
with printed "Secretary" crossed out, fresh and Very Fine, Grant was the
last President with franking privileges while in office (free franks were
abolished in July 1873), with 2004 P.F. certificate declining opinion as to
whether this was carried thru the mails

strike of "Point Pleasant Va. Sep. 25" datestamp, pencil "Due 3", 1861

some wear, otherwise Very Fine, scarce usage, Hayes fought in and was
wounded in the Civil War, before being elected to Congress in 1865 |

President Wilson (d. Feb. 3), Very Fine, her franking privilege took effect
on Mar. 4 and this was used only eight days later
