Choice centering and bright shade, used with 1c Blue (63) and 24c Red Lilac (70), Position 91R1 with straddle-pane margin at left, wide margins all around and beautiful centering, tied by grids, red "New York Paid 24 Feb. 17" (1863) credit datestamp on folded letter to Paris, France, sender's ship designation "p Europa", red Calais transit ties 5c and 24c, red "P.D." in frame, Paris backstamp, certificate mentions light diagonal crease at bottom right of 5c (truly negligible)

EXTREMELY FINE. A COLORFUL AND EXCEEDINGLY RARE 1861 ISSUE COMBINATION FOR THE DOUBLE TREATY RATE TO FRANCE.

The vast majority of double treaty-rate covers to France are prepaid with a single 30c stamp or three 10c stamps. Combinations of other values range from uncommon to rare, with this 1c/5c/24c being extremely rare. The use of the 5c Red Brown adds another dimension of desirability.
