592   Image1898, 66-2/3c Violet on Dark Blue, -1/3bbl., Beer (REA61; Priester 67). Large margins to clear including sheet margin at left, faintly cancelled, small faults including creases and tiny internal tear

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. THE 1898 ONE-THIRD BARREL UNSURCHARGED ISSUE IS ONE OF THE RAREST OF ALL BEER STAMP ISSUES. ONLY TWO COPIES ARE RECORDED BY PRIESTER.

The other example was offered in our 2006 sale of the Tolman collection, and has margins in at top and bottom. Both are faulty.

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 1901 ONE-THIRD BARREL BEER STAMP ISSUE. ESPECIALLY DESIRABLE IN UNUSED CONDITION.

The Priester census records five copies of this issue. We do not know if any others are unused. We have offered only one used copy (with perforated cancel) since keeping computerized records.

Large margins to just in at lower left, rich colors, "M NUNAN 4.25.09" perforated cancel from this San Francisco brewery, few creases, tiny tear at bottom left, small surface scuff at left, otherwise Fine, only 16 are recorded in the Priester census but it is likely scarcer than that -- the example we offered in our Tolman sale turned out to be the more common Dark Blue paper so the stamp offered here is the only example we have offered since keeping computerized records -- ex "Scarsdale", with 2012 P.F. certificate (Image)
