FINE APPEARANCE. ONLY TWO EXAMPLES OF THE 1898 ONE-HOGSHEAD ON BLUE PAPER WITH TYPE C SURCHARGE ARE RECORDED.
The Priester book records only two examples of this issue. The other, with Type 51 surcharge, is repaired and rebacked. It was offered in the November 8, 1989 Weill sale at Christie's (lot 659).

ACCORDING TO PRIESTER CENSUS, THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THE TYPE B 1898 PROVISIONAL SURCHARGE ON THE ONE-THIRD BARREL STAMP WITH PLATE LETTER AND POSITION NUMBER.
The Priester census records a total of two copies of this issue on blue paper. This is the only one with the plate letter and position designation.
