1185   Image1c Blue, Ty. I (18). Plate 12, perfect centering which clearly shows the characteristics of the type, deep rich color, razor-sharp impression on pristine paper, pretty strike of red New York Paid City Delivery circular datestamp

EXTREMELY FINE USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 PERFORATED ONE-CENT TYPE I. PARTICULARLY EYE-APPEALING WITH THE RED NEW YORK CITY CARRIER DATESTAMP.

The defining characteristic of Type I is that the entire design is printed, including the scrolls and plumes at bottom. Type I perforated stamps are only known from certain positions on Plate 12. Due to the narrow spacing between perforations and difficulties of production, this issue is usually found with part of the design cut off by the perforations. The example offered here, with bright color, a clear cancel and with the design characteristics clearly visible, is a true condition rarity.

1186° ng Image1c Blue, Ty. Ia (19). Bottom row of Plate 4, unused (no gum), well-balanced margins revealing the key design characteristics at top and the all important plumes at bottom, rich color, completely sound

VERY FINE AND CHOICE AND EXTREMELY RARE. THIS IS THE ONLY SOUND AND CENTERED UNUSED EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 PERFORATED ONE-CENT TYPE Ia WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED.

Type Ia was produced by only 18 of the 20 bottom-row positions on Plate 4. Although Plate 4 was designed with sufficient space to accommodate perforations, the height of the top row and bottom row positions resulted in the perforations often cutting into the design at either top or bottom. For this reason, stamps from the bottom row of Plate 4 with perforations clear of the design are especially desirable, since the characteristics of the type is complete (Type Ia) or nearly complete (Type Ic) at bottom. The stamp offered here is the only centered, sound unused example that we can find in our records.

With 2015 P.F. certificate (VF 80). Scott Specialized Catalogue value for "Very Fine" (Image)

1190   Image1c Blue, Ty. III (21). Position 80L4 with interpane margin and centerline at right, blind perfs between selvage and stamp, gorgeous centering, rich color nicely complemented by blue circular datestamp

EXTREMELY FINE. A STUNNING USED INTERPANE MARGIN AND CENTERLINE EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 ONE-CENT TYPE III.

Only six positions along the two adjacent vertical rows of Plate 4 can possibly be Type III; therefore, centerline examples are rare (especially since the selvage was often removed). Accompanied by small plating chart showing the distinctive marks on this position.
