1275 og Image3c Scarlet, Reprint (41). Without gum as issued, bright color and fresh

VERY FINE EXAMPLE OF THE 3-CENT 1857 RE-ISSUE.

The Continental Bank Note Company made a new plate for the 3c 1857 Reprint, consisting of 100 subjects. 10,000 stamps were printed (100 impressions). 479 of the 3c were sold, and the remaining 9,521 were destroyed on July 23, 1884, by order of the Postmaster General.

A review using Power Search shows that virtually all are off center to some degree, and many have perforations touching on one or more sides due to the narrow spacing on the original plate. The example offered here is one of the rare exceptions.

EXTREMELY FINE EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1857 REPRINT.

The Continental Bank Note Company reprinted the 5c stamp from the original plate of 200 subjects. 10,000 were printed (50 impressions). Only 878 were sold, the remaining 9,122 were destroyed on July 23, 1884, by order of the Postmaster General. Due to the narrow spacing between subjects, many have perforations touching the design at either top or bottom. The example offered here, with perfectly balanced margins, is a remarkable stamp.

1282 og Image30c Yellow Orange, Reprint (46). Without gum as issued, rich color on bright fresh paper, exceptionally choice centering

EXTREMELY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE 30-CENT 1857 REPRINT. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE STAMP WITH SUCH CHOICE CENTERING.

The Continental Bank Note Company reprinted the 30c stamp from the original plate of 200 subjects. 10,000 were printed (50 impressions). Only 480 were sold, the remaining 9,520 were destroyed on July 23, 1884, by order of the Postmaster General.

The 30c is one of the tightest-margined of the series. This is an extraordinary stamp, by virtue of its choice centering.

With 1965 P.F. and 2004 P.S.E. certificates (XF 90, SMQ $8,000.00). Only two have graded higher (both at 95) and only five others share this grade. (Image)
