Pretty shade, tied by segmented cork cancel and "New-York Jul. 25" circular datestamp on yellow cover with "Oyston Stream Spreading Nozzle" illustrated fire fighting design to Elmira N.Y., trivial cover edge tear at upper left, Very Fine, very unusual theme for an illustrated advertising cover, Dr. John Oyston, who held a doctorate in mechanical engineering, received a patent in 1863 for the first fog-style nozzle which broke water into smaller droplets, thus exposing greater surface area to the fire to dissipate heat, this superior method, which is used today, was not widely adopted until decades after his invention (Image)
