Sam Houston Philatelics Sale - 3099

Internet, Mail, and Phone Auction 3099 - January 11, 2023

Sam Houston Philatelics next auction will close on January 11, 2023 at 1:00 PM, Central Time. The sale contains 676 lots, with material in all price ranges and something for everyone, collectors and dealers alike. A few of the highlights include the following:

  • UNITED STATES, There are (149) U.S. lots with (45) lots of nice Classics, Pictorials and Banknotes. Highlights include Lot 2; the very scarce 1a - Blackish Brown color, Lot 25, a VF-XF no. 100 and Lot 43, and XF no. 211. There are (15) Columbian lots, with denominations ranging from 2¢ to $3.00. There are (22) Exposition and early 1900s lots, including a GEM $2.00 Trans-Mississippi (Lot 67). There are (34) lots of Washington/Franklins and late 1920s with a nice variety of issues, including the extremely scarce Complete 97¢ booklet of 8 panes, 583a (BK74) . The 1930 to Date section offers (33) lots with (20) Graded, mostly 95 and 98.
  • COVERS, There are about (70) Cover lots, with about (10) Commercial selections, and (60) First Day Covers, of which (23) have hand-painted Pugh cachets. There are complete sets of individual FDC's for several Postal Card sets, each with the brilliant work of Julian and Sharon Pugh. Also, Rattlesnake Island issues FDC's hand-signed by stamp designer Bernice Kochan - interesting items.

  • AIRMAIL AND BACK OF BOOK ISSUES, Contains (50) lots, with (15) Airmails and (35) other BOB issues. Lot 227 is a beautiful C1 graded 85 (VF-XF), with other NH early Air Mail issuesl. The Zeppelin set is offered as separate lots (no.'s 233-235), with C15 being NH and the other two being VLH/LH. You will also find three graded lots, and NH copies of Special Delivery stamps E3 and E5. Rounding out this section, is an extensive collection of beautiful Christmas Seals.

  • ERRORS, FREAKS & ODDITIES, (35) Lots of EFO's are offered, highlighted by 1710a, 13¢ Spirit of St. Louis Imperf ERROR, plus other interesting omitted colors, misperfs, etc.

  • GENERAL FOREIGN & COLLECTIONS, About (110) lots with a nice selection of sets and singles from countries "A to Y" including Argentina, Canada, the Falklands, Germany, Great Britain and a number of other countries, to include the Virgin Islands and Yemen. There are (6) U.S. Collections that includes a Military cover collection, a collection of Cut Qquares, and two wonderful lots with extensive Christmas Seals, as singles and sheets. Also offered, (19) Foreign and World Wide collections, a very nice Bahamas collection, Iraqi Most Wanted cards; and an exceptional Spain collection - nearly complete from 1950-1984. An exceptional collection of stamps and album conditions.

  • AUTOGRAPHS & MISCELLANEOUS, There are (15) Autographs lots, with mostly political figures such as Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower and several Postmaster Generals. A highlight is a cover signed by Captain Eddie Rickenbacker, with a beautiful add-on full front cachet - very nice. The miscellaneous items include various Cinderella items, and eclectic odds and ends.

  • DUCK AND CONSERVATION STAMPS, PRINTS (Federal, Junior and State) contains over (220) lots with a mix of Federal, State, Governor's Editions and most other categories. Included are (15) lots of FDC's, Junior Duck stamps, and Plate Number Singles. There are (67) lots of Federal stamps (singles, Plate Blocks and Graded issues), and (4) Mini-Sheet lots - all graded. There are (12) Error lots, along with a few Remarques and Press Sheet items. There are (39) Artist Signed Federal stamps, with many early and scarce signatures. A few State issues are included, along with (14) Governor's Editions lots, (4) being Hand-signed by the Governor. Also, there are (9) Conservation and Fishing stamp lots. Several First of State/Nation Duck Prints are offered. Included are Alaska, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, Utah, West Virginia and Argentina. Additionally, take a look at the (3) acrylic original waterfowl paintings.
