Original addr crossed out and forwarding addr in script "JAS.A.CLAYTON/34W SANTA CLARA/SAN JOSE, CA." San Jose receiving pmk dated "SEP 9 430PM 07" (rectiliner type). Cachet is multi-colored pictorial for "ADMISSION DAY CELEBRATION/N.S.G.W SAN JOSE/SEPT. 7th 8th 9th 1907". (N.S.G.W. is for Native Sons of the Golden West). Pictorial of pastoral scene at sunrise w/line of figures (Ca. Bears?) on railroad track. Suitcases nearby marked "NATIVE SON" & "NSGW". Early September is when new members are brought into the N.S.G.W Service organization. Cover opened at R by scissors w/some loss of envelope, but still in excellent condition - an awesome piece! DEC. 17, 1903". Stamps tied to cover by lrg cds "KITTY HAWK/DEC/17/1928/N.C." The reverse has picture of the Pitcairn Mailwing Bi-plane w/inset of a plane cockpit with inscription "U.S. MAIL/CAM No. 19" (the New York to Atlanta route). BUCKLEY (DD-808)", second tied to cvr w/cds "U.S.S./MAR31/1954/MISSISSIPPI" marking the Centenary of the Kanagawa Treaty (Perry Convention) when Commodore Perry opened Japan for trade. Cachet applied to reverse (due to placement of addr.) and entitled "RETURN OF THE BLACK SHIPS". One cover had been sealed resulting in part of the cachet appearing inside the cover. On July 6, 1928 New York City held a ticker type parade for Wilmer Stulz, Louis Gordon and Amelia Earhart to celebrate the June 17-18, 1928 trans-Atlantic flight making Earhart first woman to cross the Atlantic by air. While not inspected yet in the U.S., Netherlands had been invaded by Germany in May, 1940.
