Public Auction - September 12-13, 2014

The Auction contains 1380 lots of Rare Collectible Postage Stamps and Postal History of the World, including the property of 46 owners.

The Auction includes:

  • USA - beautiful range of early definitive and commemorative issues, many in mint never hinged condition, as well as modern errors and varieties;
  • Nice selection of Great Britain and Early British Commonwealth, including Great Britain _L5 orange, nicely cancelled, Aden Dhows #1-12, MNH, Antigua Tercentenary issue #67-76, MNH, Cayman Islands #29-30, 85-96, MNH, Gibraltar _L5 violet and black, MNH, Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika King George V and Animals #46-59, MNH, nice assortment of early North Borneo issues, Saint Helena 15s violet and black, MNH, and many more;
  • Carpatho-Ukraine,contains surcharged rarities of the First and Second Uzhgorod issues, including surcharge ''60'' on Postage Due stamp of 2f, in mint never hinged condition, one of only two issued stamps;
  • German stamps and postal history with beautiful selection of early Third Reich material, valuable Occupation issues of the World War II;
  • COMPREHENSIVE RUSSIAN AREA MATERIAL:
    Imperial Postage Stamps and Postal History
    , including scarce early stationery pieces, gorgeous exemplar of 30k carmine and green (#4, very lightly hinged), corner margin block of four of 5r with perforation 11 1/2 (#71a, MNH), selection of scarce TPO cancellations, including St. Petersburg Local Railways Postal History Collection, and many more valuable items;
    RSFSR Issues, representing numerous printing and surcharge varieties, as well as Soldier 100r orange with error stamp of 70r in imperforated complete pane of 25, which in addition with double impression, one of just a few recorded;
    Soviet Union includes multiple rarities such as three card mounted essays of the Second regular set, Moscow Philatelic Exhibition souvenir sheet (''Kartonka'') with red cancellation, one of just a few known, trial color proofs of commemorative issues from 1933-37, various blocks of four from 1930-50's, the largest known multiple of 1948 Art Theater, 40k blue with raster square in block of nine, perforation varieties of 1950-60's, and finally Palekh Paintings of 1976, 14k with inverted gold color (ornament and denomination) in bottom left corner margin block of four, modern rarity with just several known to exist;
    Semi-Postal items, representing World War I Postal Charity, "Philately for the Children", ''Philately for the Labor'' and "Leningrad Flood" issues, including numerous proofs and varieties;

    Air Post stamps and covers section, shows imperforated Zeppelin set of 1930, cover prepared to be sent by Zeppelin, franked with Airship 50k gray blue, error of color, great range of Consular surcharges, including two sheet reconstructions for 24mk and 120mk stamps and many other valuable items;

    Non-Postal stamps, including Fiscal and Official stamps of Imperial Russia, as well as various Soviet Charity stamps and Cinderella labels;

    Post Offices in China and Turkish Empire contains elusive lots with stamps of early issues, including large black surcharge 7k on 10k, printed on vertically laid paper (one of two recorded exemplars), in addition extremely rare postal history items, such as cover from Constantinople to Aleppo of 1869, R.O.P.iT. Office in Burgas cover to Constantinople of 1883 and several others

    Locals of the Civil War of 1918-22, including Kharkov, Kustanai, Siberia and Verny (Alma-Ata) issues;

    Zemstvo (Rural Post) includes valuable stamps and postal history material, such as Ardatov Chuchin #13, mint, rank "RRR", Rzhev #8, manuscript cancellation, rank ''RR'', Starobyelsk, Schmidt #18, mint, rank ''RRR'' and many more;
    In this section we additionally offer The Stage-Coach Collection of Zemstvo (Rural Post), Part I, which contains over 150 various single and collective lots of Zemstvo Districts from ''A'' to ''L'';

  • Traditionally powerful Baltic States, representing in particular watermark and printing varieties of Latvia and Lithuania
  • Fabulous Ukraine, which includes nice range of various Trident overprints, presenting material from J. Terlecky and Dr. Seichter Collections;
