Likely earliest know use of this postmark. Postmark is full, sharp and rare.  Item sent FREE to Washington DC indicating political sender. Cannot decipher recipient's name, but clipping inside is of political nature and note at side of cover says See Webber about McAllister. Clipping from Evening News January 4, 1856. Since this postmark was first used in 1856, this may be an earliest known use cover. Cover has stain upper left that goes into postmark. (Image1)

District of Columbia -- Hand-franked 1843 stampless folded letter by New Hampshire Congressman Ira Allen Eastman Light, but full, Washington City January 18 postmark. Stampless folded letter to Albany, NY, is in very nice condition.  No content. Recipient noted date of 1843.  Ira Allen Eastman was an American manufacturer and Democratic politician in New Hampshire. He served as a member of the United States House of Representatives and as a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives in the 1800s. (Image1)

District of Columbia -- Hand-franked stampless cover by New Hampshire Congressman James Willis Patterson - Black history significance Patterson manuscript franking on cover to Epping New Hampshire. James Willis Patterson was an American politician and Representative and Senator from New Hampshire. The Patterson School in Washington, DC was named in his honor because he sponsored the legislation creating a public school system for black students in Washington, DC. In 1873, Patterson was found to have given false testimony to House and Senate Committees who recommended his expulsion from the Senate for bribery in the Crédit Mobilier Scandal. His term expired before action could be taken. (Image1)

One to Annapolis Chase is the son of Samuel Chase, signer of the Declaration of Independence. 1821 letter has a Baltimore fluron postmark and is from Commissioner John F. Harris advising of a hearing date. The second letter is 1817 and mentions a W. Kilty (surname is maiden name of his father's last wife). Letter is signed by Thomas H. Bowie. Whitmore kept a small store in Fitzwilliam. He is said to have been the  first merchant of Cheshire county to give up the sale of spirituous  liquors. He was chosen to many offices of trust, and was very  generous. (Image1)
