Eritrea large mint and used collection/accumulation of over 1,200 stamps in large stock book, this collection covers the whole range of the stamps of this country from 1892 to the 1930's being very comprehensive for both mint and used, there
is an excellent selection of the early overprinted issues, usually collected with a couple of mint values (nearly all with o.g.), then with as many as a half dozen used, in the later issues, especially the commemoratives, there are less used and some
with dubious cancels are not counted, in addition to the regular postal issues there are air posts, special deliveries, postage dues and parcel posts, all are collected in the same way and lack only a few of being complete, includes a few varieties
listed only in Sassone, condition is clean overall, o.g. or used with few exceptions, mostly fine-very fine; an attractive and valuable accumulation of this Italian Colony; total Scott catalog value is in excess of $24,000.00. |

Sassone #225b |
Sassone #225b, 1924 "Annessione/all'Italia/22 Febb. 1924" overprint on 5L Olive bister, error of color, an exceptionally well centered mint single of this incredibly
rare stamp, attractive colors and sharp impression on bright paper, o.g., lightly hinged, small natural paper inclusion in top margin which are quite normal and endemic to this paper, very fine and exceedingly choice; the various brown colors of the
three high lira values were sometimes interchanged in printing creating three different errors of color, the most important of these is the 5L value printed in the olive bister color of the 3L, this is known both mint and used without overprint and
is very rare, however the only error of color that received an overprint was this rare 5L Olive bister with the last overprint; Sassone lists this error mint but does not price it assigning a value of €2,200 in used condition; a major color
error of Fiume that is not listed in Scott and one of no more than a very few, at the most, that exist; signed S. Sorani and accompanied by 2005 Silvano Sorani and 2007 PF certificates. (Image) |

|
Fiume important and massive mint and used collection/accumulation in two large stock books, the first is devoted to the normal issues and contains over 2,300 stamps, the collection is complete for all of the stamps that were issued by this
country starting with overprinted Hungarian stamps of 1918, these come with both machine typographed overprints and handstamps, then the complete range of printed designs that often come in different printings, plus the numerous surcharges and
overprints that were later applied to them, in addition to the regular postal issues all the semi-postals, special delivery, postage dues and newspapers are collected in the same way and are complete for all issues, the normal pattern of collecting
in this volume is usually from five or six mint singles up to a dozen or more of each value and sometimes including blocks of four, there are usually two or three used values and some times more including being tied to piece, often the duplication of
mint and used shows shades and different printings, there are also over 20 covers that went through the mail and are often registered, the second volume is devoted to the varieties of the various issues and the range of these varieties is great, this
volume contains over 575 singles and multiples, we note overprint varieties with inverted and double overprints plus type varieties, etc., the basic stamps have printing errors such as double impressions and we even note an error of color of the 1923
3L in the bister brown color of the 5L, the perforation varieties are numerous including some rather good sized blocks, we note completely imperforate, imperforate between pairs as well as larger strips, plus offsets of the designs and the overprints
and much more, condition varies slightly as would be expected on such a large holding, but overall the condition is quite clean with the vast majority being o.g. or used, never hinged will be found throughout, though most is hinged and often there
are h.r. present, mostly fine-very fine; Fiume is an interesting and difficult collecting area, we have kept this fantastic collection together as one lot to allow the buyers to sift through and separate the wheat from the chaff, if all were genuine
this lot would catalog a significant sum, but given the nature of this collecting area it is certain that not everything is genuine, yet it is also certain that there is much that is genuine and there are genuine varieties that are highly desirable
and very rare; this collection demands careful examination which we expect will prove our estimate to be quite conservative. |

Sassone #5A |
Sassone #5A, 1912 15c Black grey with black blue "Libia" overprint, an amazingly rare mint example of this overprint variety that was printed in a blackish blue ink
rather the normal violet, the stamp has deep color and highly detailed impression on bright paper, slightly rounded corner perf. at top left, typical fine centering, all of little significance considering the immense rarity of this stamp;
interestingly this color overprint ink was used quite extensively as used examples and even examples on cover are not at all rare, but apparently the printings with black blue ink were all used up as only fifteen mint examples are recorded
making this one of the very important rarities of the whole Italian area, ranking up with the "2/Dollari/Pechino" surcharge of China of which only fifteen examples are known also; an important and seldom offered rarity; signed S. Sorani (Scott #16a;

Sassone #12/I, 1915 10L Olive and rose with "Libia" overprint, Ty. II, a wonderfully fresh mint single of this high denomination rarity, exquisite colors on bright paper,
quite well centered for this, fine and exceptionally attractive; the two types of overprints on the first issue were generally equally used for most values, the 10L Olive and rose is the major exception being very common in the thick type I
overprint, however the thin type II is extraordinarily rare either mint or used; this very handsome mint stamp is a highly desirable example of this rarity; signed S. Sorani (Scott #15a; $2,400.00). (Image) |
