1889 O 88 image#88, 1870 6p Blue, Saunders single line numeral "4" watermark, used single of this extremely rare stamp, watermark reversed as are all except one example, central "Victoria" in oval of bars cancel, faults present including edge tears at bottom and top right, fine appearance; paper supplies were so short at the end of the 1860's that many odds and ends were pressed into use as an emergency measure creating several rare watermark varieties, the stamp offered here is believed to be one of approximately ten examples recorded, all of which are used and often faulty, which is hardly germane considering its rarity; 2007 Dunkerley certificate (S.G. #168; £1,600). 1890 og 231 var. image#231 var., 1907 £2 Dull blue, perf. 11, a wonderfully well centered example of this high value, attractive color on bright paper, o.g. with just a trace of hinging, extremely fine; this last issue, produced during the Federation period of Australian States, was issued in 1906 in perf. 12 1/2 and then again in 1907 in perf. 11, this latter perforation being much scarcer, particularly in this select quality (S.G. #445; £850). 1891 og 24C image#24C, 1861 6p Purple on blued paper, very rough perf. 14-16, mint single of this rare printing by Perkins, Bacon & Co., strong color showing tinges of the blued paper around the heaviest inked area, large part o.g., a fine and attractive example of this elusive stamp; in 1861 Perkins, Bacon and Co. was having considerable difficulty with their perforating machine, this last printing was exceptionally poor, producing very rough perforations; this 6p value is the rarest of all the values and printings of these issues; 2007 Dunkerley certificate (S.G. #45; £2,500). 1894 ogO Australian States substantial mint and used collection of over 900 largely different with the modest duplication being different shades or varieties, or collected both mint and used, housed in a Scott album, each state is well represented with approximately 100 to 200 stamps of each collected from the very earliest issues to the late issues just prior to the unified issues of Australia, catalog value is huge with New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia containing, by far, the largest portion of the value, South Australia is the least with most earlier issues being collected used, however like all of the states, there is a selection of the later issues mint, Western Australia was a favorite of the collector with numerous of the early Swan issues, plus a nice mint selection of the later issues, New South Wales also has a nice selection of imperforates plus later mint, and Queensland has a nice selection of the early Queen Victorias and a substantial portion of the later issues mint, condition varies, particularly in the early issues as would be expected, some items are not counted, such as ms. cancels on early Tasmania, later period o.g. or used and largely fine-very fine; examination will certainly prove fruitful with total Scott catalog value over $75,0000.00; accompanied by three certificates of authenticity.
