109 ogObl 1A-C vars. #1A-C vars., ½p Green, plate varieties, a wonderful specialized group of 18 items in singles, pairs and various sized blocks (111 stamps in all), well annotated on exhibition pages noting the many constant plate flaws found on this value, includes a block of 42 showing numerous varieties including the large colored flaw off the coast at Sydney [1R40], several examples of the "ROSTAGE" flaw [2L12] in various states (including two examples in scarce coil strips of four), defective "ST" of "AUSTRALIA" [2L13] in three stages (including a mint block of 18 punctured "T" for use by the Tasmanian Government Departments), we also note a used example of the scarce "Bite" out of the upper side of Kangaroo's tail [2R6], all but four stamps are mint, o.g., several stamps n.h., overall fine-very fine. 119 c 1 image#1, ½p Green, single, tied to registered stamp dealer (Howard Davis) corner card cover, along with three adhesives from New South Wales, one from Queensland, two from South Australia and four from Victoria by "South Melbourne/15.1.13" second day of issue double circle postmarks, addressed to France, some States stamps with small faults, still fine overall and colorful; for years it was originally thought the first day of issue of the ½p Kangaroo was in Melbourne on January 16, 1913 (based on a dated piece in the Royal Collection), now January 14th is now regarded as the first date of issue, the following day (represented by this cover) is the earliest that the ½p stamp could have been on sale at the South Melbourne post office.
