212 c Sieger #119H var. imageSieger #119H var., 1931 Polar Flight, interesting combination usage with mixed franking of German 2M Polar Flight Zeppelin overprint and Russian 35k and 2R Zeppelin imperforates, the 2M is tied by "Berlin/Staaken/25. 7. 31" c.d.s. as well as on-board c.d.s. of the same day, instructions were that this was to go to Leningrad where the two Russian stamps were to be cancelled to go on to the Icebreaker "Malyguin", but it was carried directly to the Icebreaker where the receiving c.d.s. were used to tie the stamps, backstamped a month later at Schiroke, Ukraine, red German flight cachet but no Russian cachet, very fine; 1994 Simon BPP certificate (Michel #204b var.; not listed thus by Sieger or Michel). 218 c Sieger #184B imageSieger #184B, 1932 Seventh South America Flight, photo card posted on the Cruiser "Karlesruhe" with 6pf Light olive green tied by "Deutsche Marine-Schiffpost/Nr. 28/29. 9. 32" c.d.s., turned over to the Zeppelin for transport back to Germany on the return flight, Brazilian violet flight cachet, very fine; this rare mail came about because the crew of the "Karlsruhe" assisted the Zeppelin during a storm, so as a favor to the crew the Zeppelin offered to take mail home to Germany, being military personnel they were only required to pay domestic German postage from anywhere in the world so this Zeppelin dispatch was allowed at a mere 6pf for a post card; very interesting and extremely rare (Sieger €2,000; Michel #281A var.). 219 c Sieger #202Ba var. imageSieger #202Ba var., 1933 First South America Flight, a most unusual posting with five German adhesives including a 1M Zeppelin single and 4M South America Flight Zeppelin single, all tied by "Gorlitz/20.4. 33" c.d.s. for the flight to Brazil with blue flight cachet, Berlin transit on the reverse and connecting flight cachet, backstamped Pernambuco, plus 20 Venezuelan adhesives tied by Caracas c.d.s. for onward transmission to the Japanese Caroline Islands, two adhesives each of Japan and Caroline Islands are tied by the Pernambuco backstamps, but there is no evidence the cover got to the Pacific, returned to Gorlitz in June, slight edge wear as would be expected, very fine and unusual combination; not listed thus by either Sieger or Michel (Michel #294 var.).
