762 c Sieger #64G imageSieger #64G, 1930 Pan-American Flight, handsome $1.30 Zeppelin tied to a cover posted to Japan and flown on the return flight from Lakehurst to Friedrichshafen, tied by "Varick St. Sta., N.Y./May 24, 1930" machine cancel, violet American return flight cachet and red German flight cachet, backstamped Friedrichshafen plus Yokohama foreign mail receiving c.d.s. on the front, very fine and unusual destination for a cover flown on this flight (Sieger €650; Michel #68Ge). (Image) Est. 200-300

SOLD for $300.00
Will close during Public Auction
763 c Sieger #64G var imageSieger #64G var., 1930 Pan-American Flight, $1.30 Zeppelin single tied to a cover for the return flight from Lakehurst to Friedrichshafen but cacheted completely incorrectly, stamp is tied by "Lakehurst/N.J./Jun 1, 1930" duplex, violet outbound American flight cachet instead of the correct return cachet, no German cachet which would normally have been applied, but receiving the small violet "Round Trip" cachet which was consistent, but in error, for an outbound cachet on a cover addressed to Friedrichshafen, backstamped, a very neat cover with a stamp possessing outstanding centering, very fine; a scarce variety of this posting (Sieger €650+; Michel #64Gb). (Image) Est. 300-400

SOLD for $260.00
Will close during Public Auction
764 c Sieger #64G imageSieger #64G, 1930 Pan-American Flight, $1.30 Zeppelin tied to a card flown on the return leg from Lakehurst to Friedrichshafen by "New York, N.Y./City Hall Sta./May 28, 1930" duplex, violet American return flight cachet and red German flight cachet, backstamped with the Friedrichshafen receiving cancel with wavy lines, a postmark that was rarely used, minor corner wrinkles to card not affecting the stamps or markings, very fine (Sieger €650; Michel #68Ge). SOLD for $230.00
Will close during Public Auction
765 c Sieger #64G imageSieger #64G, 1930 Pan-American Flight, well centered $1.30 Zeppelin along with five other adhesives, tied to a cover addressed to Milan, Italy and flown on the return leg from Lakehurst to Friedrichshafen by "Union City/N.J./May 28, 1930" duplex, violet American return flight cachet and red German flight cachet, backstamped, very fine and attractive; ex-Belinkoff (Sieger €650; Michel #68Ge). (Image) Est. 200-300

SOLD for $240.00
Will close during Public Auction
766 c Sieger #64G imageSieger #64G, 1930 Pan-American Flight, a most unusual franking and sending to Manila, Philippine Islands, this cover from the return address originated in Basel, Switzerland and has three Swiss adhesives including two air posts, plus a German 15pf Carmine affixed, none of these were cancelled in the countries of origin, however U.S. $1.30 Zeppelin is tied by "Chicago, Ill./Air Mail/May 27, 1930" duplex and flown on the return flight from Lakehurst to Friedrichshafen, possessing violet American return flight cachet and red German flight cachet plus scarce Friedrichshafen backstamp with wavy lines, then transported to the Philippines with Berlin, Moscow and Manchuria transits and backstamped Manila on July 3rd, it is a puzzle what the unused franking was intended to do, but a scarce destination nonetheless, perf. tip toning, otherwise nearly very fine and unusual (Sieger €650; Michel #68Ge) (Image) Est. 200-300

SOLD for $260.00
Will close during Public Auction
767 c Sieger #64H imageSieger #64H, 1930 Pan-American Flight, well centered $2.60 Zeppelin tied to 5c Blue on white air postal envelope by "Lakehurst, N.J./May 31,1930" machine cancel, flown on the return flight to Friedrichshafen, violet American return flight cachet and red German flight cachet, backstamped, very fresh and choice very fine; this value is actually quite scarce on this leg as it overpaid the rate by double, so nearly all covers are found franked with the $1.30 Zeppelin (Sieger €900; Michel #68Gf). (Image) Est. 400-500

SOLD for $650.00
Will close during Public Auction
COMBINATION ZEPPELIN/CATAPULT FLIGHTS

768 c Sieger #64B imageSieger #64B, 1930 Pan-American Flight, $1.30 Zeppelin vertical pair tied to combination Zeppelin/Catapult flight cover by "New York, N.Y/Grand Central Sta./May 6, 1930" duplex, flown on the Friedrichshafen to Lakehurst leg of the Pan-American Flight with violet American and red German flight cachets, backstamped Lakehurst, then sent by steamer "Bremen" with horizontal pair of 10c Lindbergh tied by German Sea Post duplex back to Europe for the June 15, 1930 Catapult Amsterdam Bremerhaven flight, red boxed catapult cachet, very fine (not priced thus in Sieger; Michel #66Gb; Michel gives €1,000 additional premium to covers of this flight flown on catapult flights). (Image) Est. 1,000-1,500

SOLD for $1,300.00

769 c Sieger #64C imageSieger #64C, 1930 Pan-American Flight, companion cover to the previous combination Zeppelin/Catapult flight cover, with $2.60 Zeppelin tied by "New York, N.Y/Grand Central Sta./May 6, 1930" duplex, flown on the Friedrichshafen to Lakehurst leg of the Pan-American Flight with violet American and red German flight cachets, backstamped Lakehurst, then sent by steamer "Bremen" with horizontal pair of 10c Lindbergh tied by German Sea Post duplex back to Europe for the June 15, 1930 Catapult Amsterdam Bremerhaven flight, red boxed catapult cachet, very fine (not priced thus in Sieger; Michel #66Gc; Michel gives €1,000 additional premium to covers of this flight flown on catapult flights). 770 c Sieger #64C imageSieger #64C, 1930 Pan-American Flight, $2.60 Zeppelin and two air posts tied to A.C. Roessler printed cachet and combination Zeppelin/Catapult flight cover, this cover was first sent by the May 8, 1930 catapult flight of the "Bremen" to Koln with all three stamps tied by "U.S. German Sea Post/S.S. Bremen/May 3, 1930" duplexes and receiving the scalloped red flight cachet of the catapult flight, from there the cover was transported to Friedrichshafen for the flight to Lakehurst, since this did not go to Europe in the normal Zeppelin mail it did not receive the violet America flight cachet or even a Friedrichshafen transit, but it did receive the red German flight cachet and green Lakehurst Zeppelin backstamp of May 31st indicating it properly flew on the Zeppelin flight, trivial edge wear to cover, a very fine and handsome example of this rare Zeppelin/Catapult combination (not priced thus in Sieger; Michel #66Gb; Michel gives €1,000 additional premium to covers of this flight flown on catapult flights). (Image) Est. 1,000-1,500

SOLD for $1,550.00
Will close during Public Auction
771 c C15 image#C15, $2.60 Zeppelin, tied to cover addressed to Finland by "New York, N.Y./City Hall Sta./May 2, 1930" duplex, this was apparently intended to be a combination Zeppelin/Catapult flight cover, but the sender did two things wrong, he did not pay an extra 20c postage for the catapult flight and he did not give specific instructions, he only specified the catapult flight, therefore the cover was sent on the May 8,1930 catapult flight from the steamer "Bremen" to Koln with that flight's cachet, then by air via Sweden to Finland, small surface scuffs to cover including one on the stamp, otherwise very fine; technically the sender paid enough postage so he could have specified by catapult to Koln then by Zeppelin via Friedrichshafen to Seville or Brazil and he would certainly have been accommodated; an interesting usage of this high value Zeppelin stamp to pay a 20c rate. SOLD for $350.00
