1082 og 119 image#119, 15c Brown and blue, Ty. II, an exceptional mint example of this very difficult stamp, being in a quality that few other mint examples are found, as this stamp is not only extraordinarily well centered within large margins, but also possesses sumptuously rich colors and razor-sharp impressions, full o.g., relatively lightly hinged, very fine; an especially rare stamp in this choice original gum condition; 1999 PF certificate. (Image) $4,000.00

SOLD for $6,000.00

1083 og 120 image#120, 24c Green and violet, a most extraordinary mint example of this rare stamp, possessing numerous outstanding physical qualities rarely associated with this difficult value, including being incredibly fresh overall, with beautifully rich colors and prooflike impressions of both the frame and central vignette, which are perfectly aligned to one another (a seldom seen occurrence), well centered within large margins, crisp even perforations, especially clean full o.g. that has been only lightly hinged, very fine; all-in-all an incredibly choice and desirable mint copy of the Twenty Four Cent 1869 Pictorial; 1999 PF certificate. (Image) $9,000.00

1084 og 121 image#121, 30c Blue and carmine, a rarely seen sound original gum example of this difficult value, with warm rich colors and sharp impressions, attractively centered, full o.g., relatively lightly hinged, very fine; 2000 PF certificate. (Image) $7,500.00

1085 og 122 image#122, 90c Carmine and black, mathematically precise centering amid lavishly large margins, spectacularly intense colors and deeply etched impressions on bright fresh paper, intact perforations all around, incredibly clean full o.g. that has been lightly hinged, superb. The example offered here from the William L. Lewis collection is, without fear of being contradicted, one of the top two or three finest original gum examples of the Ninety Cent 1869 Pictorial in existence, as this phenomenal stamp features physical characteristics that are virtually unheard of on this notoriously difficult and rare value. What is most remarkable about this stamp is the extraordinary combination of gem qualities converging on a single copy - centering, size of margins, color, impression, overall freshness and preservation of gum. This stamp, in its last auction appearance in March 2002 (Shreves Philatelic Galleries, Inc. "Premier Sale"), realized a record $32,500.00, plus the 10% buyer's premium, when it cataloged $9,250.00. We fully anticipate that the realization in the Lewis sale will be equally impressive versus its current catalog value. A remarkable gem that is deserving of placement in the most important collections of United States stamps. Accompanied by 1991 PF and PSE certificates; ex-Weisman, Higgins. (Image) $11,000.00

SOLD for $62,500.00
Closing..Jul-15, 04:00 PM
