1909 BLUISH PAPERS continued...
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
321 og 362 image#362, 6c Red orange on bluish paper, a brilliantly fresh mint example which possesses incredibly vivid color that is not at all affected by oxidization as is so often found, plus its impression is quite strong on bright paper, marvelously centered as well, with large margins, o.g., relatively lightly hinged, very fine and quite choice; 1994 PF certificate. (Image) $1,500.00

SOLD for $1,250.00
Closing..Dec-10, 03:00 PM
322 og 363 image#363, 8c Olive green on bluish paper, absolutely perfectly centered within margins that are extravagantly wide, sumptuously rich color and a sharp prooflike impression on immaculate paper, full clean o.g. that has been fairly lightly hinged, superb. This incomparable gem is arguably the finest recorded example of the Eight Cent Bluish Paper rarity. Its margins and perfection of centering are unlike any other we can find in our records. The only example in recent memory that has sold at auction that is even somewhat comparable to this extraordinary stamp is the copy we had the pleasure of selling in our January 2000 sale of the Larry Lyons collection. The Lyons example was extremely choice and featured outstanding centering within large margins. It realized an impressive $55,000.00, plus the 10% buyer's premium - a record realization for an Eight Cent Bluish Paper that still stands today. It is our opinion that the example offered here from the Donald H. McCree, Jr. collection is superior to the Lyons copy.An exciting opportunity to acquire one of the great rarities in United States philately in the finest condition imaginable. Accompanied by a 1974 PF certificate; ex-Cole. (Image) $27,500.00
