Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
14 O 5 image#5, 1c Blue, Ty. I, position 7R1E, full to exceptionally large margins virtually all around, including a partial sheet margin at top, margin at bottom right barely touching plume, being among the very few existing examples whose design is virtually intact all around, wonderfully fresh and distinctive early Plate 1 color, unusually lightly cancelled with a blue grid postmark (one of just a few recorded with any type of colored cancel), the cancel is well placed leaving the important Type I design characteristics completely unobscured, there is a small mild corner crease at top left, which is entirely in the partial sheet margin and well away from the design, very fine overall. An incredibly choice example of one of the rarest and most sought-after classic United States stamps. One position, the legendary position 7R1E, provides the philatelic world with the only full Type I design as originally intended, a characteristic no other One Cent imperforate displays. According to the masterwork, The Wagshal Census of 7R1E by Jerome S. Wagshal, there are only 90 confirmed examples of the imperforate Type I, the vast majority of which are used. When one eliminates those found on cover or in multiples, there are a mere 56 single examples available to collectors. Of this population very few are found with the overall eye-appealing characteristics this stamp possesses - most particularly its wide margins displaying a virtually intact design - plus bearing a seldom seen colored cancellation. In our opinion, the copy offered here from the McCree collection ranks among the finer copies available of this important rarity. Accompanied by a 1995 PF certificate. (Image) $45,000.00

SOLD for $52,500.00
Closing..Dec-10, 03:00 PM
15 O 5A image#5A, 1c Blue, Ty. Ib, position 9R1E, a particularly handsome and seldom seen sound example of this rare type that only comes from the top row of plate 1, with ample to large margins all around, just barely touching design at bottom left, exceptional powder blue shade that is characteristic on the early state of this plate, and set on fresh white paper, well defined impression showing the Ty. Ib design characteristics well, light unobtrusive strike of a black town c.d.s., very fine for this; 1995 PF certificate. (Image) $7,000.00

SOLD for $6,250.00
Closing..Dec-10, 03:00 PM
16 O 6 image#6, 1c Blue, Ty. Ia, a wonderfully fresh used example of this important classic rarity, being one of only a few certified sound examples recorded of Scott #6, possessing margins which range from just touching at a couple of points to large (paricularly at right), leaving all of the essential and all-important Ty. Ia design characteristics virtually intact, intense dark shade and a well incised impression on bright fresh paper contribute to this stamp's overall eye appeal, unobtrusively cancelled by a portion of a black postmark, completely free of the myriad of flaws which affect most known copies, nearly very fine; the extreme rarity of Ty. Ia stamps is due to the fact that only 18 of 20 positions on the bottom row of plate 4 sheets produced this type, which shows a full design at bottom; 1984 PF certificate. (Image) $11,000.00

SOLD for $6,250.00
Closing..Dec-10, 03:00 PM
17 O 8 image#8, 1c Blue, Ty. III, a select used example of this rare type, being extraordinarily large margined, with large to huge margins all around, equally impressive are this stamp's exceptional and well defined Ty. III design characteristics, boasting a very large break in the top label and an absolutely gigantic break in the bottom label, lovely rich color and impression on particularly bright paper, very light black town c.d.s., accompanying certificate mentions a "small toned spot at bottom right" which is so faint and inconsequential that we are surprised that it was even mentioned, extremely fine; 1995 PF certificate. (Image) $3,250.00

SOLD for $2,400.00
Closing..Dec-10, 03:00 PM
18 O 8A image#8A, 1c Blue, Ty. IIIa, position 59R4, used, large well balanced margins all around, strikingly intense color in a deep shade which is characteristic of stamps from plate 4, well defined impression on bright paper which shows a distinctive stitch watermark, light and unobtrusive town c.d.s., extremely fine; 1991 PSE certificate. Closing..Dec-10, 03:00 PM
19 O 9 image#9, 1c Blue, Ty. IV, choice used example, large to huge margins all around, attractive pastel shade and a clean impression on bright paper, very light strike of a black c.d.s., extremely fine. (Image) $130.00
