924 nh 834a image#834a, $5.00 Red brown and black error of color, an exceptionally handsome mint example of this very rare and popular error, brilliantly fresh, deep luxuriant colors and sharp detailed impressions, well centered and surrounded by crisp even perforations, flawless o.g., n.h., very fine and especially choice; 1995 PF certificate. (Image) $3,000.00

925 nh 1033a image#1033a, 2c Carmine rose, on silkote paper, pristine mint single of this interesting experimental paper variety, well centered, o.g., n.h., extremely fine; a modern day rarity as only 50,000 were printed and sold at the Westbrook, Maine post office, and all but a tiny fraction were used; 1999 PF certificate. (Image) $750.00

SOLD for $400.00
Closing..Nov-05, 12:00 PM
926 og 1056 var. image#1056 var., 2 1/2c Gray blue coil, small holes, a very rare mint joint line pair, with Birmingham, Ala. precancel, full o.g., lightly hinged and with a pencil number erasure on the gum, fine-very fine centering; all of the small hole varieties come from the second printing and all were precancelled; the exceptional rarity of mint examples with full gum, and particularly joint line pairs, is due to the fact that mint precancelled stamps were only available to permit holders for their use, resale of them was illegal, thus nearly all of this perforation variety that are in the market place are used and without gum, and even those are very scarce, thus there are practically no mint examples available; line pairs, being a tiny fraction of this already miniscule number, are great rarities, this being the first example we have ever offered; 1995 APS certificate. (Image) $3,000.00

SOLD for $2,200.00
Closing..Nov-05, 12:00 PM

930 nh 1789B image#1789B, 15c John Paul Jones, perforated 12, pristine example of this important modern rarity, well centered, unblemished o.g., n.h., extremely fine; the Fifteen Cent John Paul Jones commemorative was issued in 1979, printed by the J.W. Fergusson & Sons Co., and first perforated 12 x 12 by the American Bank Note Company, however the horizontal pins broke after only one day's use and were replaced by perf. 11 pins (creating the 11 x 12 perf. variety) and later the perf. 12 vertical perforating pins were replaced by 11 pins (resulting in the 11 x 11 variety); to date, only four sheets of 50 each (200 stamps) have been reported of the perforated 12 variety, making this one of the rarest stamps in United States philately; the example offered here comes from position 12 from a sheet first discovered in 1989 and has remained intact until fairly recently; the decision by the Scott catalog editors in 2001 to elevate this stamp to major catalog number status has caught many serious collectors off guard, resulting in an empty album space in many otherwise nearly complete 20th century collections; photocopy of a 1989 PF certificate for the original intact pane of fifty. (Image) $3,500.00

SOLD for $2,100.00
Closing..Nov-05, 12:00 PM

II (#319q), position A, both panes quite well centered being fresh with light natural flat plate gum bends, o.g., n.h., covers are particularly nice with fresh color, especially crisp and clean, very fine and choice; neither Scott nor Furman assign different booklet numbers for the different colors and types that these panes come in and the generic catalog value is for the most common pane varieties, this 2c Lake, Ty. II is far rarer than the 2c Carmine Ty. I and especially so in such a select example (Furman #BK14 BC2B Il). (Image) $1,000.00+
