2 c image"Sam Houston", Statesman and First President of the Republic of Texas, his free frank signature on a wonderfully fresh and attractive folded cover, while undated, the accompanying photocopy of the original letter is datelined March 14, 1827, this is a scarcer free frank from his early period while a Congressman from Tennessee (1823-1827) and confirmed by the "Washn. 11 O 1c image#1c, 5c Red orange, a breathtaking used example of this distinctive color, boasting enormously large margins all all around, showing bits of the frame lines from the adjoining stamps at top and bottom, incredibly rich and unmistakable red orange color on very fresh paper still retaining much of its original bluing, boldly postmarked with a circular grid cancel in deep blue, an extremely fine gem in the most optimal condition possible and quite likely the finest quality used example in existence; any example of this, the rarest of all the Five Cent 1847 colors, is a terribly elusive stamp, and when found they invariably have small faults, very few exist sound, and only a tiny fraction of these are found with with margins that can even compare to those found on this remarkable copy; 1994 PF certificate (submitted by Raymond H.
