86 og imageS.G. #69, 70, 1907 2p Dull and bright violet and 4p Grey green and black, watermarked Crown and "CA", a wonderfully matched pair of these two values that are considered to be the rarest of the British King Edward VII issues, both centered to the top as all known examples are, but these are actually as well centered or better than most, all colors are intense and rich with highly detailed impressions and no rubbing as is often found on this chalky surfaced paper, full clean original gum with only the barest trace of hinging, very fine; only eighteen examples of each of these values ever reached the market because the name of this country was changed to Nyasaland Protectorate at the time they were produced, of this tiny number a block of four and a single of each value reside in the Royal Collection and a single of each are in the British Library Philatelic Collections, thus no more than twelve examples are in public hands; similar quality sheet margin singles in our October 2003 Collector's Series auction from the A. Edward Grashof collection realized $35,000.00, plus the 10% buyer's premium; 1971 A. Diena certificate for the two and 1975 RPS certificates for each (Scott #71-72; $17,000.00). (Image) £18,000
