159 og 180 image#180, 2c Carmine vermilion special printing, without gum as issued, intense "fiery" color which is characteristic only to this stamp, finely detailed impression on brilliantly white and fresh paper, while centered a bit to top left, this is actually far better centered than most, as a number are found with only barely fine centering, its perforations are completely intact and not scissor separated as are so many of the Hard Paper Special Printings, very fine. A fabulously fresh and choice example of this great United States rarity. There have been only 22 different examples certified as genuine Two Cent Hard Paper Special Printings by the Philatelic Foundation. Plus there are two uncertified examples, one of which is in the New York Public Library collection. Of the 22 certified examples, the copy offered here from the McCarthy collection is among the finer quality examples available. An exciting and infrequent opportunity to acquire this important rarity. Signed W.H.C. (Warren H.
