1922 Coil Waste
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
527 O 594 image#594, 1c Green coil waste, an exceptionally choice and desirable used example of one of the rarest and most difficult stamps of the 20th century, with fewer than 100 examples confirmed, being among the very few known examples whose perforations clear the design all around and is completely free of the flaws which affect so many of the existing copies, wonderfully rich and bright color, well incised impression, neat crisp strike of a machine cancel, very fine; a stamp that is missing in even the most advanced United States collections; the catalog value quoted in Scott is for copies "with perforations just touching frameline on one side" and is not relevant to an example of this exceptional quality; signed by George B. Sloane and accompanied by his 1934 letter of authenticity, along with a 2002 PF certificate. (Image) for fine 6,750.00

SOLD for $7,000.00
Closing..Dec-12, 03:00 PM
528 O 594 image#594, 1c Green coil waste, one of the most impressive appearing used examples of this exceedingly rare 20th century stamp that we have had the pleasure to offer, possessing essentially perfect centering within huge margins that are totally uncharacteristic for this stamp, the vast majority having considerably smaller margins and usually touching or cutting into the design on one or more sides (the Scott value is for perforations just touching on one side), surrounded by full even perforations, sumptuous bright color and detailed impression, and to complete the stunning visual appeal of this stamp it has been very lightly and unobtrusively cancelled with a town c.d.s., vertical crease at center but this flaw does not detract from this stamp's tremendous extremely fine gem appearance; it would be quite a challenge to find another example of this stamp, sound or otherwise, that would equal the striking visage of the copy offered here; clear 1955 PF certificate, as well as an updated 2002 PF certificate. (Image) for fine 6,750.00

SOLD for $5,250.00
Closing..Dec-12, 03:00 PM
529 nh 599A image#599A, 2c Carmine coil, Ty. II, perf. 10 vert., highly select mint single of this scarce coil, incredibly well centered within large margins, deep "fiery" color, o.g., n.h., extremely fine; a pristine gem for the perfectionist; 1994 PF certificate for a pair, this being the left stamp. (Image) 200.00

SOLD for $725.00
Closing..Dec-12, 03:00 PM
530 O 613 image#613, 2c Harding, rotary press perforated 11, quite well centered for this, particularly when compared to other existing examples, wide even margins on three sides, right perforations close but clear, intensely rich color and an unusually clean impression on bright paper, very light and unobtrusive slogan machine postmark, completely devoid of the faults which affect many of the known copies, tiny natural paper inclusion visible only on reverse (and not even mentioned on the updated certificate), very fine for this. The Two Cent Harding rotary press perforated 11 stamp is one of the most sought-after rarities in United States philately. There are 40 confirmed singles and two pairs known - all of which are used. Nearly two-thirds of the existing population are sound, however a great many of these are found quite poorly centered, often with the perforations cutting the design. The McCarthy copy is among the better centered examples available and one of the most eye appealing in terms of its overall quality. A highly desirable example of this important rarity. Accompanied by 1986 and 2002 PF certificates; ex-McKinney. (Image) for fine 42,500.00
