2133 O 108b image#108b, 1954 30c Owen Falls Dam, Vignette Inverted, a fresh and lightly cancelled used example of this error showing the dam and inscription inverted but properly placed in the design, this being one of only three recorded examples, all of which are used, similar centering to the other two, light diagonal crease (all three examples have small flaws), still very fine; although issued in 1954, this error was not discovered until 1983, when a collector in the United States found one in his notebook of duplicates, the second example, which is offered here was found in 1992 in a glassine of common stamps and was auctioned in 1993 by Christies for $10,500.00, plus the 15% buyer's premium, and the third example was similarly discovered in a mixture of common stamps in 1996, this third example was sold in our September 2002 sale of the Peter Balner Collection of Inverted Centers of the World, where it realized a record $13,500.00, plus the 10% buyer's premium; it is now believed that one position on the sheet contained the inverted vignette since it is correctly positioned within the design; the 5c from this set with a similar design also has one used example known with an inverted vignette; one of the great modern rarities of the world and one of the highlights of the "Northern Lights" collection; 1992 BPA and 1993 PF certificates (S.G. #171a; £11,000).
