342 c S.G. #46 imageS.G. #46, 1891 "Postage/and/Revenue/1d." provisional surcharge on 8p Grey brown, a nicely franked 1891 registered cover to Jamaica, with horizontal strips of six and four of this provisional surcharge, for 8p double rate postage and 2p registry fee, all tied by "Grenada/MR 18 91" c.d.s., double oval Jamaica registry receiving postmark, all markings are on the front, small backflap at left missing and edge soiling and small tears, mostly at the bottom and not affecting stamps or markings, fine and scarce cover used in the proper period of use (Scott #36). 343 ogbl S.G. #47a S.G. #47a, 1891 "2 1/2d" provisional surcharge on 8p Grey brown, tete-beche pair, a full mint sheet of 30 pairs, unlike the 1p surcharge on this value the selvage was not removed, this sheet with full selvage on all four sides, o.g., 23 tete-beche pairs are n.h., but gum toning on the reverse (not very apparent from the front) affects all but seven never hinged pairs, plus a couple of stamps with tiny thins, varied centering, fine-very fine appearance; the center row of tete-beche pairs shows the two different type "2"'s in "1/2"; interestingly position R7/2 has a partial period after "d" which is not much different than the one in the 1p surcharge sheet on this same value, but unlisted; this is the only known intact sheet to the collector (Scott #37a, 38a, 38b; $3,750.00+). 356 P S.G. #48-55 imageS.G. #48-55, 1895-99 1/2p-1/- Key Plate country name and value tablet die proofs cplt., eight original working proofs in black on glazed card, about stamp size or slightly larger, mounted on four pieces of sheets from the De La Rue archives, this set was issued in three different groups in 1895, 1896 and 1899 with the plate work done as needed, each with a date in black manuscript and "60 leads from each" indicating the number of times impressions were to be laid out on the plate, then a date about a month later in red manuscript indicating completion of the work and entry in the records, red line placed on some of the proofs as well, very fine and lovely original archival proofs of the entire set (Scott #48-55). 357 S S.G. #48s-55s imageS.G. #48s-55s, 1895-99 1/2p-1/- Queen Victoria with "Specimen" overprints cplt., a specialized collection of 32 stamps with various types starting out with a complete set from the De La Rue archives, each affixed to small pieces of archival sheets with manuscript dates next to each a few months before the issuance date and evidently the dates they were printed, six of these have the normal "Specimen" overprint showing a flaw to right leg of "M" in "Specimen" (club foot variety), 1/2p and 2p, the last 1899 values, have no overprint (as they were put on the archival sheets), but additional copies with "Specimen" overprints are present to complete the set, also includes vertical strip of five of 1p and horizontal strips of four of the 2 1/2p 3p, 6p and 8p values, "Specimens" are scarce in multiples, o.g. or part o.g. except for the archival copies, very fine and a nice lot (Scott #39S-46S). 358 S S.G. #48s/55s imageS.G. #48s/55s, 1895-99 1/2p-1/- Queen Victoria with diagonal "Specimen" overprints cplt. less the 2p value, this very scarce type of overprint was either prepared locally or for presentation purposes, the missing 2p value has not been seen with this type overprint and was in the last group of values to be printed, the 1/2p which was issued at the same time as the 2p is different from the others in having a period after "Specimen", o.g. very fine and very rare group of specialty "Specimen" items (Scott #39S/46S).
