I, booklet pane of six, position A, a complete pane (including the top sheet selvage tab) tied to a registered cover to New York, NY by multiple strikes of boxed "San Mateo/Cal." postmarks, violet "San Mateo, Cal./Nov 3, 1912" double ring c.d.s. on reverse along with New York arrival cancels, pane with rich color and fairly well centered, cover with some minor usual wrinkles and a couple of edge tears (one larger on reverse), overall a fine and rarely seen usage of a completely intact pane as the only franking. I, booklet pane of six, being not only the rare position B (showing guide arrow in the top right sheet selvage tab), but this pane displays the very rare "ball marker" as well, position B is a highly desirable and collectable position (#5) which occurs only once on the 180-subject plate, but to also find one with the distinctive "ball marker" makes this pane one of the most important position pieces known of all 1902-03 booklet panes, intense color, well centered, o.g., l.h., very fine; it is believed that the ball shaped marking, known on less than 2 tenths of a percent (.002) of sheet plate proofs, represents indentations from a Brinnell hardness measuring; ex-Joyce.
