1503 c image1918 Picture postcard with Turkey 20pa (slight stain in corner) tied on front of postcard by FPO 46 3-9-334 postmark, sent to Germany, with "Deutsche Feldpost 10.9.18" c.d.s. and blue "Kraftwagen-Kolonne 507" cachet on reverse, very fine; used by a member of the 146th German Infantry regiment of the Motorized Column #507, and placed in the German field post office #663 for transmission to Germany, as the German postal system was considered much more reliable than the Turkish. 1505 c German and Austrian Military Mail in Palestine, The Gold Medal Collection formed by Dr. Jerome L. Byers, offered intact except for the above seventeen covers which were made into individual lots, all are on the original exhibition pages with write-ups, and some with additional notes on the back, consisting of 168 covers or cards, two registered receipt labels and three stamps tied to piece, covers all of the fascinating aspects of the German and Austrian military postal system during the Turkey campaigns during World War I, including all of the various Feldpost markings, military regiment cachets, consulate usages, auxiliary markings (registered, official, censored, etc.), there is also much historical information of the exhibit pages, regarding where the particular units were at the time of mailing, what battles they were involved in, how the mail was sent (diplomatic pouch, courier, via Turkey, etc.), generally fine-very fine; one of the most comprehensive collections ever formed from this historically important time period of Palestine philately; would make an ideal basis on which to build an international caliber exhibit.
