I, an extraordinarily handsome mint example of this very rare stamp, possessing outstanding centering within considerably larger margins than usually found, strong vivid colors and clean crisp impressions, part o.g. (covering approximately 75% of the stamp), just the slightest trace of toning on a few perforations (really inconsequential), extremely fine; any mint example of a #118 still retaining its original gum is a rarity, but to find one this well centered and margined is an almost impossible task; 1999 PF certificate. (Image) 7,500.00

(Image) 875.00

Closing..Mar-08, 04:30 PM
169 og 119 var. image#119 var., 15c Dark brown and blue, Ty. II, an especially handsome mint example, this being the shade variety listed in Scott showing a much deeper brown color than usual, incredibly fresh, with sumptuously rich colors and prooflike impressions, wonderfully well centered within uncharacteristically large margins, unusually full and intact perforations, part o.g., extremely fine; this stamp, which is the beneficiary of exceptional eye appeal, is an important addition to a specialized collection of 1869 Pictorials, as this is the first certified example of this Scott listed shade we have ever seen; 1981 PF certificate (specifically identifying this as the dark brown and blue shade variety). (Image) 3,250.00+

SOLD for $4,250.00
Closing..Mar-08, 04:30 PM
170 og 120 image#120, 24c Green and violet, a magnificent mint example of this value which is seldom found in even the most advanced collections in any condition, let alone in this gem quality, in fact, we believe this to be one of the finest original gum Twenty Four Cent 1869 Pictorials in existence, as it possesses physical qualities with which few others can compare, including being incredibly well centered amid very large margins which are more characteristic of its re-issue counterpart, deep luxuriant colors and strong impressions on bright paper further contribute to this stamp's overall appeal, full clean o.g., lightly hinged, extremely fine; the rarity of this stamp in mint condition is illustrated by the fact that virtually none of the great collections sold in recent years (Weisman, Zoellner, Keenan, Golin, Floyd, etc.) had a sound original gum copy; the Larry Lyons collection however, which was sold by this firm in January 2000, did have a very fine original gum example that realized $17,600.00, but its centering and margins are not comparable to the remarkable stamp offered here; 1982 PF certificate. (Image) 7,000.00

SOLD for $16,000.00
Closing..Mar-08, 04:30 PM
171 O 120 image#120, 24c Green and violet, a handsome used single, possessing excellent centering within especially large margins, deeply rich color and a highly detailed impression, extremely fine. (Image) 750.00

172 og 121 image#121, 30c Blue and carmine, a phenomenal quality mint single for the collector who has been seeking out the finest available example, as this incomparable stamp is virtually flawless in every respect, from its mathematically precise centering amid extravagantly large margins, to its absolutely gorgeous fresh colors and clean impressions on brilliantly fresh paper, intact and even perforations all around, its reverse is equally impressive, featuring full pristine o.g. that has been lightly hinged, an extremely fine gem example of an immensely rare mint stamp; this magnificent original gum Thirty Cent 1869 Pictorial is the finest to appear on the auction market in years; 1986 PF certificate; ex-Welling. (Image) 7,000.00

SOLD for $17,000.00
Closing..Mar-08, 04:30 PM
173 og 121a image#121a, 30c Blue and carmine, without grill, an incredibly fresh and choice mint example of this important 1869 Pictorial rarity, possessing a marvelous overall brilliance, with sumptuously rich colors and unusually detailed impressions, well centered and margined, full clean o.g. with a small h.r. strip at top, extremely fine; one of the finest examples available of the Thirty Cent 1869 Pictorial without grill; inexplicably undercataloged by Scott, as they only give this a $1,000.00 premium over a normal mint single which, given its rarity in comparison does not accurately reflect its true value; 2001 PF certificate. (Image) 8,250.00

SOLD for $11,500.00
Closing..Mar-08, 04:30 PM
174 og 122 image#122, 90c Carmine and black, mathematically precise centering amid lavishly large margins, spectacularly intense colors and deeply etched impressions on bright fresh paper, intact perforations all around, incredibly clean full o.g. that has been lightly hinged, superb. The example offered here from the William J. Higgins collection is, without fear of being contradicted, one of the top two or three finest original gum examples of the Ninety Cent 1869 Pictorial in existence, as this phenomenal stamp features physical characteristics that are virtually unheard of on this notoriously difficult and rare value. What is most remarkable about this stamp is the extraordinary combination of gem qualities converging on a single copy - centering, size of margins, color, impression, overall freshness and preservation of gum. A remarkable gem that is deserving of placement in the most important collection of United States stamps. Accompanied by 1991 PF and PSE certificates; ex-Weisman. (Image) 9,250.00

SOLD for $32,500.00
Closing..Mar-08, 04:30 PM

(Image) 2,400.00

SOLD for $8,000.00
