579 og PR99 image#PR99, 96c Pink, fabulously fresh, with sumptuously rich color and characteristic Bureau issue impression, well centered within very large margins, full clean o.g., very lightly hinged, extremely fine for this. An incomparable mint example of the 1894 Ninety Six Cent Bureau issue Newspaper - among the rarest of all regularly issued Newspaper stamps. Of the mere 12 examples which have been certified by the Philatelic Foundation (a thirteenth copy is used), this is, by far, the finest quality example, and one of the few which still retains its original gum. Virtually all of the other certified examples have faults of varying degrees and are terribly off center. There is only one other sound example, but it is quite off center. The rarity of this stamp is underscored by the fact that, not only have we never had the pleasure of ever offering a copy of this stamp, but we also have not seen one offered at auction, in any condition, since 1993. Every serious collector of Newspaper stamps has #PR99 listed on their want list, but after the conclusion of this year's Premier Sale only one will be able to make the claim that they own the finest existing copy of this important rarity. Accompanied by a 2001 PF certificate. (Image) 15,000.00
