1195 c 2a image#2a, 10c Light blue, Paterson printing, left sheet-margin single, with lavish margins all-around, in an attractive milky blue shade, on cover with manuscript "Forks of Pigeon, N.C./Dec 5th" town marking and cancel, addressed to Capt. W.W. Lenoir, Fort Defiance, Caldwell County, N.C.; Walter Waightstill Lenoir, North Carolina native and grandson of Revolutionary War Gen. William Lenoir, was wounded at Manassas in September 1862 resulting in the amputation of his right leg. He returned to the family home at Fort Defiance, where he received this envelope that was probably mailed from his brother who operated the family plantation at East Fork of Pigeon; a few back faults which do not detract, still very fine; a desirable small-town cover from the "forks of the Pigeon River" in Haywood County, N.C.
