2054 ogOblc Paraguay, the fabulous specialized collection from 1812-1940 housed in 42 volumes replete with proofs and essays, shades, plating studies, multiples, perforations, varieties, cancellations, and covers, including pre-stamp (4) with Colonial "Ytapua" (front) and "Paraguay" (very fine on 1812 entire letter) in red, 1856-68 essays (14) with 1860 (c) lithograph essays presented to President Carlos Lopez lion design die proofs (2, green and pale red brown) on wove paper (67x92mm), 1870 first issue 1r (touched) cancelled by "Asuncion/R.P." c.d.s. of Aug. 28, 1870 which is the earliest recorded date of use, 2r (12, nine used), and 3r mint and used (9, with a vertical pair), various reprints, 1878 surcharges with an excellent representation including large figure in black 5c on 1r with double surcharge used (1985 APS certificate), 5c on 2r (5, two unused, faults) and blue 5c on 1r block of four mint, 5c on 3r used (faults) and small figure in black 5c on 2r used (2), 5c on 3r used, and in blue 5c on 3r unused (surface abrasion), 1879 5r and 10r composite die proof in black (ex-Lovibond) and two covers (single and double rate frankings), 1881 proofs with composite transfers, imprint blocks, issued stamps perforation study, 1881 handstamped "1" on 10c in complete mint sheet of one hundred, 1884 surcharge plating study of basic stamp with numerous large blocks (13) ranging in size from six to twenty, 1884 1c, 2c, and 5c transfer strips of three with 3c for postal stationery se-tenant in composite die proof in black, 1887 issue with an excellent assembly of covers (10) and uprated stationery (5), 1888-91 engraved die proofs of various unissued portrait designs for 2c (4) and 4c (3), 1892-96 issue includes fine frankings on cover with "AR" and cancellation interest, 1895-1903 surcharges, 1900-02 die proofs with essays and issued designs, 1905-10 large size artist's drawing of 5c, die proof of 2c in black on glazed paper, and colored die proofs (8) for 1c, 2c, 20c (2), 30c (2), and 60c (2), 1905-10 Palace issue complete in mint sheets of twenty-five, 1907-08 surcharges comprise an outstanding study in six volumes with a myriad of varieties, many of which are in multiples with important positional pieces as well as fine commercial frankings on covers, Air Post with first or special flights, Zeppelins with varieties and numerous South America flight covers, and Officials include important studies of the 1886-89 issues with 1886 first issue essays, composite die proof in brown of 5c, 10c, both printed sideways, 15c (3, one unadopted) and 20c on wove paper, first overprint set with "Specimen" overprint, 7c and 10c in complete sheets of twenty-five, 1886 (Aug. 26) envelope from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Buenos Aires bearing 1c, 2c, and 7c, and corner card cover from the same correspondence bearing 1c, 2c pair, and 15c, a wealth of reprint material includes varieties and sheets, second overprint has covers, and 1889 5c on 15c (8, one inverted) on envelopes (2) and a newspaper to Buenos Aires, also an interesting section of early picture postcards, fine-very fine; an ideal and seldom encountered opportunity to acquire a collection of this magnitude and depth where virtually every issue comprises a study in its own right, and a highly advanced collection for someone wishing to embark on serious study of this subject, where one can benefit from the years of research and diligent searching invested in order to form such a collection.
