La Guaira-Puerto Cabello-St. Thomas 1866 zig zag roulette 1/2r Red, Stone II, on 1866 (Feb. 7) entire letter from Puerto Cabello to Bordeaux via London, cancelled by "Correos / La Guaira" double ring h.s., showing framed "G.B. / 1f 60c" accountancy h.s. and French "10" (decimes) h.s. adjacent, with transit and arrival backstamps, very fine trans-Atlantic cover bearing a rare stamp (very early date for this), the use of which was necessitated by a shortage of the 2 reales stamps; 1989 Holcombe and 1996 Paaskesen certificates. Royal Mail Steam Packet Company 1875 10c Carmine, used on neat envelope to Gonaives, Haiti, well tied by oval "Franco" h.s. (probably of Santo Domingo, cf. accompanying 1871 entire letter from Santo Domingo to New York showing nearly identical handstruck "Franco" postmark), one of only two recorded covers bearing this stamp, which was issued for prepayment on letters between non-British contract mail ports, very fine; an important exhibition item for collectors of Danish West Indies postal history, as well as private steamship companies and maritime mail; signed A. Spanish West Indies Mailboats, 1868 entire to Fort Lee, New Jersey via St. Thomas (Nov. 3) bearing Great Britain 4p vermilion (perfs. trimmed on two sides) boldly cancelled by "D26" barred obliterator (oily strike) supplied to British mail clerks on the Herrara Line and additionally tied by "N.Y. Steamship / 10" c.d.s. (Dec. 10), showing "Spanish Mail Packet" (Nov. 8) and St. Thomas / A" c.d.s. on reverse, manuscript endorsement "Due 10", the cover has extensive restoration, nevertheless a great rarity being the only recorded cover with the Spanish mail packet and "D26" (cancelling a British Stamp) in conjunction. Cuba 1873 25c and 50c applied as Postage Dues, paying the inland postage and indistinctly cancelled on 1873 (Mar.) envelope from Maine to Ponce (Apr. 4) via St. Thomas (Mar. 24) with U.S.A. Banknote 2c, 3c pair, and 10c, franked at origin and showing "New York / 8" c.d.s. (Mar. 5) in red adjacent, representing full prepayment to a West Indies port, 10c for packet postage on British Red Ball Line packet Mandingo to St. Thomas and 8c for the Royal Mail Packet postage to San Juan, a unique combination cover and also the only recorded cover carried by the Red Ball Line (which operated from October 1872 to May 1873 between New York and Demerara) to St. Thomas, the cover is a little reduced at left and the stamps have some faults.
