792 c 2 image#2, 1866 3c Rose, full margins on three sides, touched at right, on 1869 (May 7) envelope (a trifle reduced at left) from St. Croix to Minnesota by "Brazilian Steamer", cancelled by mute type target and showing "Christiansted" origin c.d.s. adjacent, used in combination with Great Britain 1865 4p vermilion plate 10 (#43), small defect in margin at top, cancelled "C51" with "St. Thomas / Paid" c.d.s. in red alongside, manuscript "10c." for cash payment of U.S. stamp to prepay Brazilian packet line postage and U.S. internal postage; however, the Brazilian ship "Mississippi" failed to arrive on account of being shipwrecked off the coast of Martinique, hence the use of the 4p stamp to pay for the British packet to Havana, with circular "Steamship 10" h.s. indicating postage due for packet to New York and the inland American postage; an extraordinary combination cover only partially prepaid to destination with postage due charged. Jurgens & Co." merchant's cachet) to Puerto Plata, cancelled by concentric circles (mute type) h.s., showing Danish P.O. "St. Thomas" origin c.d.s. adjacent, over which Great Britain 1865 4p vermilion plate 14 (#43a) has been applied and tied by "C61" barred obliterator with matching "Porto Rico/C" (index letter inverted) c.d.s. of July 4 alongside, endorsed "p. Maracaibo" and subsequently "Mersey" since the mail was transferred from the former to the latter due to a breakdown en route, small piece of address panel with minor internal tear due to wax seal, which does not really affect the very fine appearance of this famous combination cover, a great rarity and a wonderful exhibition item;: only four HAPAG-Great Britain (British Post Office) combination covers recorded; ex-Julius Steindler; signed A.
