1866 og S.G. #81 imageS.G. #81, 1863 1p Orange vermilion on pelure paper, a mint example of this very rare stamp, which is notorious for being found with faults due to the very frail nature of the paper, this particular copy is exceptionally fresh, with deep vibrant color, margins range from just clearing at top right to mostly large, still retaining its full o.g. (most existing copies have had their gum removed), some gum soaking/staining at top left due to hinge removal and the excess moisture having permeated the porous pelure paper, otherwise very fine; only a handful of mint copies exist and very few of these still retain their original gum; 1970 PF certificate; ex-Chapin (Scott #21; $7,250.00). (Image) £6,000
