The France 1849 One Franc Vermilion is the rarest regularly issued stamp of France, and one of the most sought-after classic stamps of Europe. Mint copies are especially challenging to find - and when one is located it invariably lacks gum and/or has faults to some degree. This stamp, with its full even margins, fresh color and original gum is far superior to the vast majority of the few known mint copies. The only other mint example we have offered was in the William H. Gross sale on May 19, 2010.

A rare opportunity to obtain one of Europe's rarest and most desirable stamps in particularly choice quality; signed Roumet, Calves and others, as well as being accompanied by a 2009 J.F. Brun certificate (Yvert #7; €95,000). (Image)
