788 ogO   Valuable balance of a large collection, the collector had an unique way of mounting, he would take the item on the original auction or retail card, neatly file it in Scott number order with the rest of the lot card, then when he had time, he would remove the item from the lot card, carefully cut a Showguard mount for it, and note on the back of the mount the Scott number and his cost, then he would transfer it to a stockbook, and finally, he would take items from the stockbook and mount them in his album, the collector was accumulating far more stamps than he could keep up with, therefore, there are stamps in all three transitions, on original lot cards, in the stockbook and in the album, the lot card section contains the most number of items, with duplication to be found, packed with $25.00-$100.00 cataloging stamps from early to the mid -20th Century, the stockbook is probably the "meatiest" of the group, as it is loaded with medium and higher priced items, including early used 19th Century singles and pairs, turn-of-the-century including several dollar value Columbians, numerous Washington-Franklins including high values and coils, some plate blocks, strips and back-of-the-book issued, the two-volume collection also contains valuable stamps, particularly from the early period, with used #5A and #8 noted, as well as some varieties, condition is mixed, but there are plenty of fine-very fine and highly saleable stamps throughout; the unusual layout of this collection will make examination a little more challenging, however the patient viewing should be greatly rewarded. 791 ogO   Useful mint and used stock of thousands to 1938 neatly arranged in nineteen stockbooks, there are more used stamps than mint, though more of the value is probably found in the mint, start off with the Bank Notes (Scott #178) and contains high cataloging late 19th century, especially the Columbian issue, which goes to the $3.00 value and includes ten mostly used dollar values, Washington-Franklin heads include better mint stamps and blocks, also some value in later regular issues such as #573 arrow block and some plate blocks, strong back-of-the-book (which contains some earlier 19th Century stamps), with air posts including a Graf Zeppelin set, special deliveries, postage dues, officials, newspaper stamps, locals, CSA, revenues and cut squares, plus there is a worthwhile group of possessions, duplication throughout, including on medium priced stamps, mixed condition; examination should prove our estimate to be conservative. 796 O 134/138 #134/138, Bank Note grill specialized group, an interesting study of 44 used stamps and fourteen covers which have another nineteen grilled Bank Notes, in the off-cover there are five 1c Ultramarine, six 2c Red brown and two each of the 6c Carmine and 7c Vermillion, the other 29 are 3c Green including an end roller grill and a quadruple split grill, all are genuine and identified as “H” or “I” grills as well as early or late state of the grill if possible, the covers include a 1c single franking drop usage, five 2c covers and eight with 3c frankings including two covers with mixed grilled and ungrilled stamps and a rare registered cover with 15c Black with “F” grill (#98) and 3c Grilled Bank Note, condition mixed with faults present to some stamps and covers, but also attractive fine to very fine items are present; an excellent reference collection of the difficult Bank Note grills with a total catalog value of $6,400.00.
